This is an autobiographical account of finding love in later life and holding onto it despite the baggage one has accumulated by then. Nadine's friend, Colette who is French is dying and Nadine goes to see with her to say goodbye. After a couple of years supporting Colette's husband, Olivier, in his grief after Colette's death, Olivier and Nadine fall in love. But Nadine is torn. After two failed marriages, she has sworn to never let another man dominate her life. And in spite of his new love for Nadine, Olivier is still dealing with his grief for Colette, to whom he was married for forty-seven years. Early in their relationship, Olivier takes Nadine to France, so that she can see where he came from and meet all his friends and family. This book is largely the story of that five-week trip through France. On the way, their love for each other deepens, but it also undergoes many trials and tribulations. At the end, love emerges triumphant, Nadine shows her vulnerable side and Olivier learns to live with someone new.
